Interview at the German Embassy in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines

What are your experiences during your interview at the German Embassy?
What are the common German Visa interview questions?
Are the German Visa interview questions hard?

Before your German Visa Interview date comes, please make sure to book a plane ticket a soon as possible. In my experience, I booked a 2-way ticket at Cebu Pacific Airlines. It costs around 2000+ Pesos. Also, keep in mind your interview time as this is very important. Remember, Germans are well-known of their PUNCTUALITY. So the saying “better late than never” is UNACCEPTABLE. My interview was scheduled at 8:30 AM and I arrived in Manila 2-3 hours before the actual interview time.

When I arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, I immediately called for a taxi. The complete address of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany is:

25/F Tower 2 RCBC Plaza
6819 Ayala Avenue
Makati City, Metro Manila

The travel time from the airport to the German Embassy is about 25 to 30 minutes and the taxi fare amounted to 100 Pesos. You might be assuming that the distance from the airport to the German Embassy is just near and you might be thinking “I will not book a very early flight. Otherwise I will be sitting there doing nothing...

Now please take note that I arrived at the airport at approximately 5:30 AM. No traffics. Not raining and the weather was fine. Not many cars around. Lastly, almost all stoplights I have encountered were GREEN. So if you arrive on a RUSH HOUR, then you better pray that you won't be late. Never UNDERESTIMATE the TRAFFIC situation in Manila (You know the story).

I just waited for the time to pass by at Jollibee just located near the German Embassy. I sat there, ate a light breakfast meal. I might get caught being a “StandbyER” so I just ordered something even though I was not hungry.^_^ Places where you can wait, sit, eat and drink just near the German Embassy are: Jollibee, Seven Eleven, StarBucks and several restaurants.

At 8:00 am I went to the German Embassy, left my bag at the counter, left my Company ID in exchange for something like a "Building Pass or ID" and brought my necessary papers and a ballpen. I drove the elevator and pressed the 25th floor. Then finally I was at the German Embassy. Before I entered the office I was checked by policemen probably for unnecessary things. Cellphones are prohibited! My cellphone was stored in a cellphone locker by the policeman and he gave me a key. As I entered, several people were already there. People who wanted their German Visa renewed. Seamen who wanted their Working Visa renewed. Half German and Half Filipino citizens who just started to process their German Passports. People who wanted a Visa (don't know what its called) for educational, study German Language and cross-cultural purposes. A single mother who wanted to get a German Visa for her Half German and Half Filipino son. And so many Filipina women who wanted to get a German Spouse Visa or a German Fiancee Visa. Approximately about 60 seats are available and approximately 120 people were coming and going that day. If I am not mistaken, there are 5 COUNTERS and a “Special Room” where as I have noticed, important conversations or special appointments were made.

The appointment system inside the German Embassy is based on PRIORITY NUMBER. Don't confuse yourself with the Visa Appointment by Phone. Therefore it is still first come first serve basis. When your number is called, make sure that you are there and immediately go to your counter. If it happens that you are not there or you have not heard when your number is called, you just SIMPLY WAIT AGAIN for your number to be called. For example there are 100 people having appointments, 100 priority numbers and your number is 50. You missed your turn. So you have to wait again from 51 to 100, then 1 to 49 before your number will be called. A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME! Note that the average time spent for every person interviewed is between 20 to 30 minutes. Please do the math... So if you are scheduled for an interview at 8:30, it does not mean that you will be interviewed at 8:30 sharp because it also depends on how long it will take for the people interviewed before you. And don't murmur or say to yourself “It is already 8:30!!!”, just be PATIENT. You might be questioning about my line in the first paragraph about German PUNCTUALITY. Well, what if your number will be called at 8:30 am sharp or earlier?

My number was finally called. I went to the counter. The interviewer asked for my papers. I submitted it and she interviewed me. We spoke in either Filipino or English. You might be wondering what the questions were, right? Well, the questions were really VERY HARD!

How did you meet your German spouse?
Where did you meet your German spouse?
When were you married?
How many years were you in a relationship prior to wedding?
When is your planned departure date to Germany?
Does your German spouse already worked in Germany?
Where is your German spouse residing?

Were the questions really that hard?hehe ^_^ But it really depends on what questions the interviewer will ask. There is really no format whatsoever. It is not a Nursing Board Exam or your Finals. Therefore there is NO NEED TO WORRY as long as you and your German spouse/fiance are legally married, have legal papers, and your relationship is “Genuine” (Sorry I could not explain the previous sentence further but I think you understand what I mean ^_^).

After the interview I received a paper that contains the ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS that I have to submit via COURIER SERVICE or PERSONALLY.

This paper also contains the status of your other documents or requirements. For example:

na - means not applicable e.g. "Proof of basic German Language"

x - means that you lack this paper and you have to submit this paper or requirement e.g. "11,250 Pesos verification fee"

/ - means check and that you have already submitted this paper e.g. "Birth Certificate issued by NSO on SECPA"

NOTE: The official COURIER SERVICE of the German Embassy is AIR21. If you have already gathered the additional requirements, you can't just send it to the German Embassy directly. You have to call the call center of the German Embassy again. The operator will give you the Reference Number of your documents and the pick-up time for your documents. For more details please read THIS (on the last page).

Summary of my experience of my Visa Interview at the German Embassy in Makati, Metro Manila:

1. I arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at approximately 5:30 am.
2. I immediately called for a taxi and arrived at the RCBC Plaza after 25 to 30 minutes.
3. I waited for the time to pass by at the McDonald's just located near the German Embassy.
4. I went to the German Embassy at 8:00 am.
5. My interview was scheduled at 8:30 but my number was called at approximately 10:30 am.
6. My interview lasted for about 20 to 30 minutes.
7. I received a Additional Requirements paper from the interviewer.
8. I was finished for the day.
9. I flew back to Cebu.

After I have submitted my additional requirements, I just waited for a Mail or an Email from the German Embassy on what step should I do next or what the result is. The processing will take 4 to 6 months or maybe earlier or later, you will never know. So be PATIENT! ^_^

Hello EditorPinoy,
Ask lang unta ko about sa pagtawag bitaw sa ako husband sa alien's office nla, kung ang ako ba husband or ang alien's office ba didto and mag-inform sa embassy dri about sa documents checking?
Thank you very much..

EditorPinoy said...

Halu althely,

As far as I know, the German embassy will submit your papers to the Alien's office. The Alien's office then further check your papers and then inform the German embassy about the results.

For example, if you need to submit additional papers, or pay the extra fee for checking your papers (11,000 pesos if I am not mistaken) etcetera.

Hope this helps ^_^

althely said...

Thank you for your reply. I have another question. The embassy gave me a paper like you have above. There is an X on these 4 things. 1. If checking is needed. 2. The fee, 11,900. 3. Declaration of the complete address. 4. Pictures.

My question is, Do i have to send these things directly? and my husband called the the Standesamt, and the person said, my documents are not yet there. But he said, they already had few of my documents when my husband applied for my exemption. So there is no need to check further. What should i do?

althely said...

Sorry if i have so many questions.

What is this Declaration- in english language - dated and signed by the applicant stating the complete address of residence since birth? Where should i get this, in the Lawyer? or in the Registrar? Because in my case, we lived in a different town when i was 1-15 years old and we just moved in my present address last 2007.

Thank you for you opinions.

hi editorpinoy,
I was just at the embassy to submit the requirements for my Spouse Visa application.. They gave me a checklist of additional documents to submit, however, there was a condition that if the Auslanderbehort/Standesamt gives a written advice that there is no need to further check the documents then I would no longer need to submit those additional documents. What confuses me right now is that they told me that my husband can immediately call the Alien's Office in germany to ask if there is a need for further checking of my documents (that is, without having to wait til the Embassy submits documents to them). But as my husband called the Auslanderbehort, he was told that they have to wait for advice from the Embassy and they cannot just act on their own initiative. So now I'm thinking, should i call the Embassy again to clarify? Or should I just wait a few weeks and see if I get any advice from them?

Guten tag,

I hope this day is full Good things and Blessings with you all.

Anyway i just have a little concern. I am applying for marriage visa, and i already have my requirement and doccuments needed. Even the appointment for my interview.

But I lack 1 doccument, which is my certificate of German course, but I'm alrady enrolled and my class start this april.

So my concern is Would it really ok to lack 1 document before going to the embassy interview?

I hope to have your reply on this matter.

Thank you,

Sofia (Davao)

Germany is a very strict european country, natural lang na magduda sila, lalo na at alam nila na ang sponsor nyo ang ang inyong sariling fiance/e. German embassy has also records of all applications na nadeny, nakarecord lahat yun. Kung na deny kayo, papuntahin nyo nalang ang inyong partners sa pilipinas. :)

Anonymous said...

ano ba ang kadalasan na rason para ideny nla ang isang applicante for tourist visa with a non-german sponsor?

Hi, I was at the embassy today and had my interview for tourist, everything seemed ok but I still have to furnish them with the documents needed, and stated, I can go there direct to follow my documents basta 10AM - 1PM monday to thursday and fridays 10-11am only. During the interview, and checking my papers, the consul asked me to pay visa fee of 3,610 Pesos.. do u think that this is a good assurance? Ung ibang denied and tourist visa, were they also asked to pay the visa fee?

Anonymous said...

hi: just want to asked about the current bank statement if how much they will asked for tourist visa.. my bf is from germany and actually he told me that he has an invitation already for me to go there so thus it means its ok now no need for me to present any bank statement from my account through the embassy? thanks and hoping you can help me.. God bless

Hallo. TO ALL WHO APPLY A TOURIST VISA, MAKE SURE LANG NA MARAMI KANG PERA SA BANKO LETS SAY 1 MILLION PESOS OR 2 AND LOTS OF ASSETS SUCH AS HOUSE OR SO.

GERMAN EMBASSY WILL ALWAYS DENY TOURIST.

but why you have to apply a tourist visa?

if you have a bf in germany, dont apply as a "tourist visa" kc idideny ka lang.no chance.

what you will do is,
is to apply as a "fiance visa". but you need an invitation letter from your bf na galing din sa Ausländeramt d2 sa Germany. Tapos ngayon palang dapat mag aral ka na ng german language sa Goethe Institute in Manila for the GERMAN lANGUAGE cERTIFICATE A2 be submitted in embassy later if you have all the documents required. but you have to pass the exam which is 60 passing grade ...

to all married na, you dont need to pay the embassy anymore but you still have to pass the Goethe Certificate 60 passing grade. Pero i hope you pass more than 60, ang pangit naman kc tingnan pasang awa lang, dapat 80 or 90 kc magagamit mo yan if you like to work here.

Hi! Im offering visa application assistance specially for fiance and spouse. I am NOT a travel agent nor owner of a travel agency. I am just also a filipina like many here that is married with a German guy. I have done my own visa application and took me only 1 and half month to get my family reunion visa(spouse visa) after our wedding. I have heard from one of my classmate in goethe that he paid 40,000.00 (fourty thousand pesos) just for visa assistance and i think that is too much. I may not be able to do every duty as a travel agent would do for you but i can assure you to give the best of my knowledge with visa application specially i have done this my self. If you have any questions with regards to the fee (dont worry barya lang singil ko hehe)and any other infos or would want to avail for my service, pls email me at patlaine_19@yahoo.com. Thanks!

Hello mga kabayan,

Ang haba ng binasa ko bago ako mkarating d2 sa box na mka coment ako lol' just wanna share a little exprience here. If U are applying tourist, U really have to pay visa 4 dat, at pag cningil knila, u have at least 85% chances not to be denied. thing i know here' wlang currupt sa german embassy lol. but once na deny knila, its either my kulang sa papel mo, or nag duda sila sa interview nila sayo, dat most likely the failure 'sa interview, kse dey know naman na, we all come here not only for love'' so to say, we are all in din naman for our better future :) 'lets be honest here'& they dont like that. if U come here 4 tourist, you have to prove na obligado kang bumalik ng pinas, na my permanent job ka jan, property to take care of, round trip ticket & money in your bank stated na U have incoming income EVERYMONTH. U nid insurance too. If ur coming here wid fiance visa, well thats a lot of job to do. U need absulutetly the A1 test' German language, 2 years ago was only A1, but i heard now they are also asking now the A2 and B1. If you dont past it' den sori' U have to do it again. tell you a secret, its damn hard lalo na yung politics nila :( so better do it good. I was also in german embassy makati, i can really tell, working on visa is hell hard. Luckily i have always my husband with me all the time. the hardest thing i did there is to run in the under the sun here and there to make a xerox copy of all my papers :)
Friendly advice to all who is applying any type of visa in german embassy.. Before you go there and do the step. check on GOOGLE' everything is in there. get information, this forum is really great, but going to the site of german embassy, would be a big help. Go direct ask the german embassy information is really good. Because that is exactly what i did. I even call direct to the embassy. They do speak tagalog there.
Good luck to you all, and see you here :)

It was Tuesady but unfortunately no one came to picked it up until now :( is it normal na madelayed ang pag pick up ng additional documents? Do you have experience like mine guys? Hello pi sa inyu, meron lang po sana akong itatanong. Doon po sa mga nka try ng interview sa German Embassy, pag first mo nag apply, does it takes long time to get your passport back? Kasi nag apply na ako, tapos sabi 3-5 days ang pag process ng visa from the date if the interview. And i have waited for almost 1 week wala pa rin.. Ganyan po ba talaga ang proceso basta first timer??? Sana po may magpapa intindi sa akin.. SALAMAT PO.. And have a nice day ahead..:-)

Guten Tag! Everyone.

Lorraine here, im married with a german guy and we are planning to apply a Family reunion Visa next month. One of the requirements there is CEMAR- or advisory on marriages. Yung family name niya kasi is Müller may problema po kami. Kasi usually naman dito sa atin is walang special character na Ü. Nkaprogram sa PSA(NSO) is Muller lng. Sabi ko sa kanila change to MUEller na lng kasi acceptable yun. But the problem is i need to apply petition for correction and we need to wait again for 2 months or so. And we are in hurry coz plan kasi namin next month. I would like to ask guys if ok lng ba na MULLER yung nka lagay sa CEMAR namin. Wla naman kami problema sa Marriage Certificate namin kasi doon MÜLLER talaga.

Guys i need your help.
Vielen dank im voraus.

all you need are the following documents and please prepare yourself that you have them before going to the embassy.
Birth certificate with red ribbon
CRS Form No. 4 with red ribbon
CRS Form No. 5
Official Marriage certificate (stamped)
again CRS Form No. 4 with proof that you are legally registrated as being married.
Than cross your fingers and hope for the best and that you meet the right clerk.

We went to all this and was taken a lot of time and so much patience these people really want to demotivate you keep this please in mind. Good luck and God bless you all.

Kasi po I am a nurse applying for a working visa sa German Embassy and is about to have my appointment in less than two weeks from now. So my questions are: anu po usually yung tinatanong sa mga nurses sa embassy? Strict ba cla? Anu po kailangan kong dalhin? Actually, may format na po ako sa dpat na dalhin but in case kung may mga experiences po kayo sa German Embassy, let me know nlng po. Thank you!
