German Visa Interview Tips

What are the questions asked during a visa interview?
What are the common German Visa interview questions?
Are the German Visa interview questions hard?
Will you lose your chance of getting your Visa approved if you fail to answer the questions?

In this post I will give additional information and tips about my Interview at the German Embassy in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

If you already have a scheduled interview date from the German Embassy, the first thing that you should do is book a plane ticket. Make sure of the DATE and TIME. Check it twice, thrice or many times just to make it sure.

The complete address of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany is:

25/F Tower 2 RCBC Plaza
6819 Ayala Avenue
Makati City, Metro Manila

Visa Interview Tips
  • Have a good sleep - Before the interview day, it would be best to have a nice rest or you might end up sleeping in the chair in the Embassy.
  • Be Punctual - Note that Germans are very known of their punctuality so be on time on your scheduled interview. It would be best if you arrive 30 minutes before your interview. And never underestimate the traffic situation in Manila.
  • Prepare the documents - Make sure you have all the necessary documents prepared and inside your bag (or whatever) before you go to sleep.
  • Dress neatly - I did not say that you have to wear a formal suit like a job interview.
  • Be attentive - The appointment system inside the German Embassy is based on PRIORITY NUMBER. Don't confuse yourself with the Visa Appointment by Phone. Therefore it is still first come first serve basis. When your number is called, make sure that you are there and immediately go to your counter. If it happens that you are not there or you have not heard when your number is called, you just SIMPLY WAIT AGAIN for your number to be called.
  • Be patient - As you really have to wait for your number to be called.
  • List your questions - Prepare what you would like to ask.
  • Ask politely - Speak or talk in a polite manner.
  • Speak clearly - You will be talking with an agent using a mic.
German Visa interview questions
The German Visa interview questions are actually PAINFULLY HARD.
  • How did you meet your German spouse?
  • Where did you meet your German spouse?
  • When were you married?
  • How many years were you in a relationship prior to wedding?
  • When is your planned departure date to Germany?
  • Does your German spouse already worked in Germany?
  • Where is your German spouse residing?
  • What is the name of your German spouse?
As I have said in this post, you don't have to worry about the questions the Embassy will ask if you and your German spouse/fiance are legally married, have legal papers, and your relationship is “Genuine” (Sorry I could not explain the previous sentence further but I think you understand what I mean ^_^).

As for the question "Will you lose your chance of getting your Visa approved if you fail to answer the questions?", I could not answer this question as I have no idea on how the Embassy will investigate your Visa Papers.

Good Luck on your Interview! ^_^

Thank u so much, coz most of the questions that you post are the questions that they asked on my interview last monday. Now, im going to proceed to the next step "waiting for the approval of the visa" thay told me that they were just going to send me a letter. And i need to inform my husband to be in contact with their foreign office in germany and in the embassy... to avoid the pending of the visa. What if my husband is already inform that they already grant or approve my visa how many days before they were going to send the visa to me?

Hi Anonymous,

Why is your question like that?
If that's the case then you really did something not normal and that is why you are expecting your visa to be denied.
Could please tell me why you are expecting your visa to be denied?

hi PinayInGermany!! I was at work when I discovered this thread. I'm currently completing my requirements for obtaining a schengen visa to visit my boyfriend in Germany. I've never traveled out of the country. So I would really appreciate your opinion about my situation.
Here's the thing, I declined my boyfriend's offer to help me with the visa thing financially, since I have a decent job and I can pay for it myself. (I think I have Pride issues)
However, since I have no dependents and no other responsibilities other than myself, I tend to overspend and my savings goes nowhere.
A few weeks ago, at a snap of a thought, I decided that I will go to Germany. Although he's been bugging me for months to come and visit him and that he'll pay for everything, but I kept saying no. There's no way that im going there if im not paying for it myself. So, I decided to get a salary loan. I now have about 2,500 euros in my account, 6 credit cards and I get paid approximately 10,000 - 14,000 ( after tax and all other deductions ) every other friday.
I will be in Germany for 14-15 days. Do you think the Germany Embassy will think that I can afford it and would let me travel despite the short period of time that I had this much money in my account? Coz they will be checking my bank account right? I have the necessary documents to back it up anyway just incase they will ask me about it. I just needed to know what you would think since I believe you've been in the same situation before.
So the only thing that I'm asking for my boyfriend is an informal invitation letter stating that im staying with him during that period of time.
I'm really looking forward to your response.

EditorPinoy said...

@aileen
As I understand, you will be coming here in Germany as a tourist.
In my opinion, 2500 euros for 15 days here in Germany is enough (I am talking about Munich prices. Munich is an expensive city).
In my opinion again, it would be better if you let your boyfriend support you financially. Just in case 2500 euros is not enough as there are many nice places to visit here ^_^
With regards to the Visa process, I am not sure how it goes. It is always case to case basis when it comes to German Visa (Germans are very STRICT!)

Hi PinayInGermany! I am also planning to travel in Germany to visit my Boyfriend, Is it right if i apply for a Visit Visa? here is my Situation, I am currently working here in Hong Kong, my boyfriend had visit me here last April and spend time together for 6 days. and then after 2 months he then ask me to quit my job, go back to the Philipines and apply for visa as he wants me to visit him in Germany by August. (I have already gave my one month notice to my employer)while i am waiting for my last working day which is July 20, I am currently completing my requirements for visit visa. he already send me the invitation letter (Formal Obligation) stating that he will carry all my expenses while i stay with him and he also send me the Insurance. he send 3,000 Euro to my account. and i want to ask you, do you think i can use my statement of accounts here in Hong Kong for the last 6 momths? my other question is, since i don't have a job in the Philippines as i am an overseas worker, do i really need a Proof of real state? can i just tell the embassy that i have a daughter that will guaranty that i will go back to the philippines after my visit? or i really need to buy a land to put my name on?
Thank you and i look forward to your reply. This blog really help a lot! Lilyxxx

how to understand application form germany words?

EditorPinoy said...

Hi Anonymous,

Sorry your situation is totally different than mine. The best thing to do is to ask the Embassy regarding your questions... As for the real estate thing, I strongly believe you don't need to buy a lot.

I am a filipina who is currently living in Philippines, and my boyfriend is working as a Captain in US military which is based in Germany and he lives off-post. I applied a schengen visa 2 months ago for 17days to visit him and they grant it. But this time we are very eager to know if it`s possible for me to apply for a longer stay to visit and to be with him for 90 days, without me having a job here but he will sponsor everything like what he did before? We`ve been in a long distance relationship for a year and we want to make things sure if one of us decides to get married.

Hello Everyone, got a shengen visa, the consuls were very kind.
My advise is prepare all your documents and come early. Pag makita nila na complete ka sa docs, makikipagkwentuhan pa yan sa inyo. Hope you all get your visas soon

Tim said...

Hi guys, I just finished my interview today, I applied for a tourist visa.. after the interview, the consul took my passport, application form, xerox of documents and was asked to come back for additional documents which I already have at hand. I was asked to pay the visa fee of 3,610 pesos.. I just wanted to ask if other denied of visa should also pay the visa fee at the interview? thanks so much..

Anonymous said...

tim, the amount you paid is a processing fee. I believe that if you are approved at least you are already okay with the expenses. Pag na deny, charge it na lang to experience. From the article you wrote, I think approved ka na po.

EditorPinoy said...

@PJ
In my experience, the interview was just over the counter. Where you met your spouse? Where your spouse studied? Simple questions like that. If they said to wait then I guess you need to wait for further instructions.

@catherine
Sorry, no experience regarding visit via =(
But don't be discourage, I believe you can ask the Embassy regarding your situation or let your German Partner ask it. Do NOT do the job alone =)

@anonymous
Congratulations!^_^ That is what I did as well. Be prepared. I went to the Embassy with a very big bag full of documents. I even brought our Love Letters, Monthsary Letters, Anniversary Letters ETC!^_^

@anonymous
Thanks for replying to Tim.^_^ No experience with tourist visa.

Hi Every One,

I was planning to go for few days holiday in Mid of July,in this regard i approached a tour operator here in Dubai,and He suggested me to go for Germany Schengen Visa

I did the same and submitted all the documents as per the Embassy requirement.

My appointment with Embassy is in Mid July.Now after exploring Germany on the website and related articles i feel they may ask me following questions.

1- why you want to apply for a tourist visa to Germany ONLY?

2-Why you have not selected any other EU country?

Honestly i dont have a specific reason that why i should go to Germany ONLY.

Hope to get a positive response..

We rather say this because a friend of mine told me that if we said that we have relationship it will be hard to get visa. Please I need your advice.

Hello! I've got this German friend for over 3 years now who invited me to go to Germany and she already paid everything there including my health insurance. I'm still waiting for the papers to arrive here as they are necessary to get my Visa. I just have several questions before I go to Manila to be interviewed. First, I sure have a decent job here in Cebu but it's just that my pay may not be high enough to prove to them that I can still afford to take care of myself financially for period of three to four weeks in Europe. Anyway, my friend paid for the guarantee. Would it be a problem if I were to be honest about the amount of money I get every month? My friend would like to take me to some places in Europe and she said she'd pay for everything. Second, should I request my company to show the amount of money I get every month on the certificate of employment which the embassy also asks as one of the requirements? Another question is can I wear jeans to the interview? I swear I'd still look tidy in my jeans. (smiles) Last question, how can I prove that we are friends? Should I print our email conversations and show the pictures of us together? She came here in 2010 and we went together to Boracay. She also knows my family and she stayed for a couple of days at my brother's house when she was here. Please tell me what my chances are. Thank you.

Hello. I am working here in Philippines under the government institution. My bf wanted me to visit him for atleast 3 months. I will applied for a schegen visa, tourist visa. He already sent me the letter of invitation, health insurance, back and forth airline tickets, his statement of obligations too since he is my sponsor. I will have my interview this december and I am worried now since I dont have a credit card or any money in the bank, would it be the possible reason for a disapproval on my visa application even if i have a sponsor? I goes to the bank and apply for a credit card but knowing the date of my interview is already 2 weeks from now, can I say it during the interview that my credit card is on process? Please help me to have clarifications on this matter. A big thanks from PinayladyLOVE.
